The creators of the wildly popular short film Il-Kunsill Lokali have launched a crowdfunding campaign on Zaar to bring it to life as a fully fledged web series.
Produced by Triangle Films in association with Blank Canvas, Il-Kunsill Lokali dives into the absurd everyday antics of a fictional local council in Malta, where politics collides with the politically incorrect, amid power struggles and potholes. With Interim Mayor Peter Bugeja at the helm, comedy fans aged 15 and over can expect an unfiltered, satirical look at the community chaos as it unfolds, proving that even the smallest local council office is not without its share of drama.
Il-Kunsill Lokali stars Daniel Xuereb as Peter and Erika Ellul as Sharon, among a hilarious ensemble cast of actors and comedians. Each one of the five new episodes in the series (which will be made available to watch on YouTube for free) will have an in-person, ticketed premiere, followed by a live stand-up comedy show with the cast and crew in association with Wild Comedy Malta.
The crowdfunding campaign aims to raise €2,000 by the end of 2024, which will cover essential production costs.
“Il-Kunsill Lokali was born from a simple idea that struck a chord with audiences. It’s not just about the laughs; it’s about making something for the community around our shared love for Maltese comedy and storytelling, with the support of the public. So, if you loved (or even hated) the first episode and would love to see more, we need your help to make it possible,” says creator and director, Jeremy Vella.
Backers of the campaign can enjoy unique rewards based on the amount they donate, with each reward tier designed to create a close-knit fan experience with the show. While a €10 pledge will grant the backer a named credit in the series, higher donations up to €200 will also reward backers with perks such as a signed poster, original digital artworks, free tickets to show screenings, exclusive behind-the-scenes access, or even a cameo role in the series.
