Australian music legend Delta Goodrem and her partner Matthew Copley married in Malta last month – and serving as the romantic backdrop for both his proposal and their wedding celebrations was The Phoenicia Malta.
It was in the hotel’s seven-acre gardens that Matthew proposed to Delta during a private sunset moment in September 2023. The five-star hotel’s team helped to set the scene – complete with white rose petals, fairy lights and a string quartet – while working discreetly to support every detail. The moment captured hearts, as well as a now-famous photo, snapped as requested by a member of the team at The Phoenicia Malta.
When Delta and Matthew returned to Malta for their wedding week in June 2025, they stayed at The Phoenicia Malta and once again placed their trust in the historic hotel as their base. Working alongside local partners including wedding planner Sarah Young and the team at Palazzo Parisio, The Phoenicia Malta’s staff provided support across multiple aspects of the celebration, from securely housing Delta’s elaborate bridal gown to thoughtfully arranging moments of calm for the bride on the big day itself.
While Delta and Matthew’s reception took place at Palazzo Parisio, their Malta wedding journey came full circle three days later with a final sunset photo in the gardens at The Phoenicia Malta where it all began – highlighting how the hotel serves as both a wedding venue and the perfect honeymoon retreat.
“The team at The Phoenicia Malta made it feel like home,” Delta shared. “We captured this photo outside the hotel, with all the beautiful team at the hotel waving us off. Thank you for making our special week even more special.”
The couple’s choice reflects a growing trend in destination weddings, with Malta increasingly becoming the Mediterranean’s best-kept secret for romantic celebrations – and The Phoenicia Malta earning a reputation as the island’s premier wedding and honeymoon destination.
As a Forbes Four-Star-rated property and a Sustainability Leader as one of The Leading Hotels of the World, The Phoenicia Malta hosts everything from intimate proposals to multi-day events with its signature style and service excellence. Couples can select their favourite from a range of settings, such as the romantic Gazebo, circular Rotunda or Bastion Pool – each nestled within the hotel’s vast landscaped gardens, set against a backdrop of bastion walls and harbour views – or the Maryanski Porch and the historic Grand Ballroom, a favourite of Queen Elizabeth II herself.
“It has been an honour to support Delta and Matthew from the very beginning. Their story reflects everything we strive to offer every couple – beauty, intimacy and a sense of occasion, rooted in the island’s history,” says Enya Stellini, Events Manager at The Phoenicia Malta. “Their celebration was a reminder of how personal destination weddings can be – and why Malta continues to attract couples from all over the world. And as ever, The Phoenicia Malta remains a favourite venue for local couples who wish to wed in a distinctly Maltese venue that cares deeply about making their wedding a truly unforgettable occasion.”
