FM Theatre Productions has acquired the rights to produce the award-winning smash-hit musical at the Mediterranean Conference Centre next year.
Following the sell-out performance runs of both My Fair Lady and Mamma Mia in 2018, FM Theatre Productions has announced it will bring another smash-hit musical to Malta as the highlight of its 2019 season: the global phenomenon We Will Rock You.
Celebrating the company’s 20th anniversary this year, FM Theatre Productions successfully staged not one but two world-famous musicals to rave reviews. Now, this ambitious Maltese theatre company has set its sights on another popular show, and We Will Rock You will thus be performed in full for the first time in Malta.
Based on the songs of timeless British rock band Queen, with a book by Ben Elton, We Will Rock You was one of the longest-running musicals in West End history and has been produced in six of the world’s continents. Providing a framework for the rock band’s classic songs, the show is set in a distant future where the Earth’s name has been changed to Planet Mall, and everyone must dress, think and act the same. In a world where musical instruments are forbidden and rock music is practically unknown, a small group of Bohemians rebel against the system and struggle to restore the free exchange of thought, fashion and, most of all, music.
Featuring many of Queen’s greatest hits including Radio Ga Ga, Somebody to Love, Don’t Stop Me Now, The Show Must Go On, Bohemian Rhapsody and of course, the title number We Will Rock You, the show is described by one of the legendary rock band’s original members Brian May as ‘live, dangerous and more than anything else: it rocks!’
Speaking about the show, producer Edward Mercieca said: “We are thrilled to be the first company in Malta to have acquired the rights to this incredible show and we can’t wait to bring it to the stage. It is a show that always brings the house down and, following our sell-out runs of My Fair Lady and Mamma Mia, we have no doubt that We Will Rock You will be an absolutely hit too.”
Keep an eye out for turther details, including audition dates, which will be announced soon.
