Andrew Morton will be researching Queen Elizabeth’s connection to the islands for his new book, and is eager to speak with people in Malta who may have had a personal connection with her Majesty and Prince Philip when they lived here.
Renowned writer and biographer Andrew Morton will be visiting Malta in April as he lays the groundwork for his latest book, which will focus on the life of the British monarch.
He is keen to gain insight into what the Queen has called ‘the happiest time of her life’. The royal family has always been regarded with great affection by the Maltese people and Mr Morton is hoping to speak to anyone who has personal or family memories of that period that can help shed light on their stay in Malta.
The island hosted the then-Princess Elizabeth and her husband the Duke of Edinburgh before she ascended the throne. The Queen has always spoken fondly about her time in Malta, where she spent months at a time while Prince Philip was serving as a Royal Navy officer between 1949 and 1951.
“This is a shout out to all those on the island with pictures, videos and memories of the time HRH Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip lived in Malta,” he said. “I would love to meet anyone who can help paint a picture of that time.”
Mr Morton’s published works include some of the best-known biographies about members of the royal family and modern celebrities, including Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and the late Diana, Princess of Wales,.His book about the late princess, Diana, Her True Story, which was written with her cooperation and approval, was an international bestseller.
