Some of Malta’s best-known performers are soon set to transform into fairy tale favourites such as Snow White, Belle, Cinderella and Briar Rose (a.k.a. Sleeping Beauty), for a brilliant adult comedy heading to the MADC Playhouse from 21 April.

MADC presents the hilarious comedy Wonderland Wives by Buddy Thomas, featuring a superb cast as you’ve never seen them before, including Pia Zammit, Jean Pierre Busuttil, Joe Depasquale, Kate De Cesare, Stefan Farrugia and Stephen Oliver.

Conceived by Buddy Thomas and Philip A Poluliah, Wonderland Wives begins when ‘Ever After’ has already been a while. Cinderella’s Prince Charming is serving ten years in the pen. Belle’s house is overrun with little monsters. Alice has been hitting the caterpillar’s pipe a little too hard lately, and Snow White’s husband has shacked up with the three little pigs. When Briar Rose comes home from rehab with the face of a beauty and Prince Charming returns from prison with the libido of a beast, the desperate housewives of the magical kingdom are forced to grapple with both princely infidelity and poison apples – with laugh-out-loud consequences.

Wonderland Wives is meant for mature audiences with very immature taste,” shares the director, Francesca Briffa, who leads an equally impressive creative team including costume designer Nicole Cuschieri and set designer Isabel Warrington.

“It’s a fractured fairy tale that uses an arched brow, an eye for dark sexy hilarity and some strong language – all in the expert hands of some of Malta’s finest comedy performers – as it follows beloved fairy tale characters beyond their ‘Happily Ever After’, long after the ‘Happily’ fades away. This is one adult comedy that is surely not to be missed – and will make you giggle for weeks and months to come!”
