The 2018 edition of the ŻiguŻajg International Arts Festival for Children and Young People came to a close yesterday, on Sunday, 25 November.
With acclaimed productions from Malta and beyond, over 150 performers and theatre practitioners taking part, and successful collaborations with some of Malta’s leading public cultural organisations, this year’s edition of ŻiguŻajg has built on the sterling work of the previous editions while confirming its undisputed popularity with audiences, young and old alike.
Over its 10-day programme, ŻiguŻajg 2018 welcomed 8,200 school children from 45 schools, and a total of more than 21,000 attendees overall. It boasted 27 projects including 14 international productions, nine commissioned works and three exhibitions, for a total of 147 representations across 12 different creative forms and in 18 venues.
The festival hosted an ensemble of 159 artists and creatives from 11 countries; organised two delegate programmes and received 15 visiting international delegates.
And finally, in keeping with its strategy to implement an eco-friendly environment, not only did many of the Festival’s projects have the environment at heart, but the Festival had a number of recycling bins set up across the myriad venues hosting the events.
Rupert Cefai, Chairman of Fondazzjoni Kreattività, expressed his satisfaction at the result of this year’s festival, stating “We are very happy with this year’s edition of the Festival; its popularity is testament to the joy it brings to children, and the love it instills in them for the arts.”
Until next year!
