The Where Silence Holds exhibition has officially opened – and an upcoming event will continue its dialogue around gender-based and domestic violence.

Led by Dar Merħba Bik Foundation and curated by Elyse Tonna, Where Silence Holds brings together the voices of artists, survivors and advocates to spotlight how the silences between the trauma can hold care, reflection and transformation.

The exhibition, which remains open until 31 October at The Mill, Birkirkara, features multidisciplinary contributions from artists and collectives Charlene Galea and Sarah Vella, Mark Schembri, Francesco Grech, movingeedit Studio, Sarah-Madeleine Caruana and Claire Farrugia, Martina Darmanin and Sejjaħli b’Ismi.

A public reading event on Thursday 23 October, held in collaboration with Inizjamed, will continue the conversation on this important topic. As well as readings from exhibition artists alongside guest readers Klara Vassallo and Justine Somerville, the programme will also include a curatorial tour by Elyse Tonna, offering visitors further insight into the unique exhibition.

Where Silence Holds continues at The Mill, Birkirkara, open on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 5pm-7pm, until Friday 31 October 2025. This project has been funded by the Commission on Gender-Based Violence and Domestic Violence and the Parliamentary Secretary for Reforms and Equality through the Together We Empower programme.
